Arsenal are on the verge of completing a big-money move for Germany international Lukas Podolski, currently with Bundesliga side FC Koln, the Daily
The newspaper adds that the fee for the Poland-born striker will be in the region of £11m, despite the German side reportedly holding out for closer to £15m. But with the 26-year-old’s contract due to expire in 2013, the Telegraph confirm Koln are looking to sell before Podolski can leave on a free transfer.
Podolski, who is also capable of playing in a wide position as well as a more orthodox striker’s role, has been capped 95 times for Germany, scoring 46 goals in the process. Formerly of Bayern Munich, Podolski began his career at Koln, leaving for Munich in 2006, only to return three years later.
Koln helped finance the re-signing of Podolski via a scheme that saw a computerised image of the player appear on a website, with 8×8 pixels of the player available to purchase for 25 euros.
