Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze has signed a new contract to stay at the Bundesliga club until 2016 despite interest from Arsenal, Yahoo
The 19-year-old Germany international had been linked with a move to the Premier League and specifically Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, but Gotze has instead chosen to remain with Dortmund for the foreseeable future. Gotze’s previous contract had been due to expire in 2014.
Gotze has been with Dortmund his entire senior career, making his league debut in 2009-10, making five appearances in the campaign. A year later Gotze was a regular in the side that won the Bundesliga, playing in 33 of the club’s 34 league games and scoring six goals, while making a further six appearances and recording two more goals in European action.
This season Gotze has played on 20 times for Dortmund after suffering a serious thigh injury in December but could feature in the Bundesliga run-in.
