Bendtner hopeful of Russian switch

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is looking to move away from the Premier League and make a lucrative switch to Russia this summer, The Daily Mail reports.

The Denmark international is currently on loan at Sunderland, but has only managed three goals in the 18 appearances he has made so far. Bendtner has vowed never to return to Arsenal and once his loan spell at the Stadium of Light ends this summer, the 24 year old is looking to move on to a new challenge. Arsenal are reportedly likely to offload him at the end of the season, with many recent reports linking the Gunners with a move for Lukas Podolski of Cologne in the Summer.

Bendtner would consider joining the Russian league: ‘There are a lot of strong players going to Russia, players who previously wouldn’t have done so. They play great football there. I am fine for the moment and I will look at the options available to me when the time comes. You can never say never in football’.

Andrey Arshavin recently returned to old club Zenit St. Petersburg on loan from Arsenal and has admitted he had to make the move to Russia for regular first-team football. The 30 year old said: ‘Coming back to my home team and city would be beneficial to both sides. I haven’t been playing regularly for the Gunners lately and it didn’t seem like things would change soon, so the offer came at the right time and place.’
