Butland catches the eye of Arsenal

Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland is being touted for a move to Arsenal in the summer after rave reviews from Gunners scouts, The Mirror reports.

The 19 year old is currently on loan at League Two side Cheltenham and has represented England at every level up to the under-21s. Birmingham would love to keep Butland, but Arsenal are set to pay £1m and depending on appearances, the fee could raise to £5m. Tottenham are also interested in Butland and were looking to make a £2m bid this summer.

Butland’s arrival could put a question mark against the future of Lukasz Fabianski, who has admitted he may have to leave the Emirates Stadium for some more first team football. Wenger’s scouts have assured the Frenchman that Butland has the potential to be Arsenal’s number one in the future and provide some real competition with Wojciech Szczesny.

Wenger is also interested in Cologne striker Lukas Podolski, Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze and Ajax central defender Jan Vertonghen as he looks to build for next season. Reports emerged that Podolski’s move to the Emirates Stadium was sealed, but the German striker rejected a move had been completed and now could move to Italian side Lazio.

Vertonghen has spoken out about a potential move to the Emirates Stadium and has earmarked the Gunners as his wanted destination. The 24 year old is rated highly in Europe and is expected to leave Ajax at the end of the season.
