Chelsea in negotiations for Porto striker Hulk

Chelsea are in talks with Portuguese side Porto over the transfer of Brazilian international striker Hulk, the Daily Mail has reported.

The 25-year-old Hulk, so named because of his resemblance to actor Lou Ferrigno who played the Hulk on television, has been with Porto since 2008, moving to the Iberian side from Japanese club Tokyo Verdy. The green strip of his former club contributed to his unusual soubriquet.

The Mail add that the biggest stumbling block thus far preventing the deal being completed is over the fee. Hulk is reported as having an £85m release clause in his contract which Chelsea are unwilling to meet. A further complication arose when Roman Abramovich sacked Andre Villas-Boas, the former Porto manager who the Mail claim Hulk was looking forward to working with again.

Hulk has scored 12 goals in 28 games for Porto this season, and made his international bow for Brazil against England in 2009.
