Chelsea to face Benfica in Champions League quarter-final

Chelsea have been drawn to face Benfica in the Champions League quarter-finals after defeating Napoli 4-1 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate, coming back from a 3-1 first-leg deficit, Yahoo Sports has reported.

Should Roberto Di Matteo’s side defeat the Portuguese club they will face the winners of the tie between Barcelona and Milan. In the other half of the draw Bayern Munich have been handed a fixture with Marseille while the fairy tale story of Cypriot minnows APOEL Nicosia continues against nine-time European Cup winners Real Madrid.

Both midfielder Ramires and centre-back David Luiz were formerly of Benfica, who topped Group C in the group stages, finishing ahead of Switzerland’s Basle, Premier League champions Manchester United and Otelul Galati of Romania.

Ramires joined Benfica from Cruzeiro of Brazil in 2009, remaining in Lisbon for just a year before switching to Stamford Bridge. Luiz spent significantly longer at the Stadium of Light, joining in 2007 and leaving in January 2011.
