Dalglish sure FA Cup semi-final date will avoid Hillsborough anniversary

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is sure his side will not be asked to play their FA Cup semi-final on Sunday 15 April, 23 years to the day after the Hillsborough disaster, according to ESPN.

Dalglish said: “We won’t play on the 15th. The FA and UEFA have always been exemplary and very supportive, and that’s great credit to them.” Dalglish was Liverpool manager at the time of the tragedy, and has been a leading figure in the ensuing campaign for justice.

Having defeated Stoke City at Anfield on Sunday Liverpool were drawn to meet either Sunderland or local rivals Everton, who face a replay at the Stadium of Light after playing out a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Liverpool confirmed their place in the semi-final draw with goals from Luis Suarez and Stewart Downing as Stoke were dispatched 2-1. Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch had equalised Suarez’s opener but Downing struck in the second-half to send the Reds back to Wembley just weeks after they triumphed at the national stadium in the Carling Cup final.
