Kenny Dalglish has received a message of support from former Newcastle United and England captain Alan Shearer ahead of the match between the Magpies and Liverpool, as Shearer has told the BBC
Shearer added: “Their league form has not been good enough, but if they go home with two cups then that would certainly be progress. Liverpool have already won this season’s Carling Cup, defeating Championship side Cardiff City on penalties at Wembley in late February, and are through to the FA Cup semi-final, where they will meet Merseyside rivals Everton. The winner of that match will face either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur who contest the other fixture.
Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League, eight points behind weekend opponents Newcastle and 13 adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham, who occupy the last Champions League qualification position. The BBC however note that Liverpool have won twice in their last 11 league games, losing seven, and have won only five times all season at Anfield.
Dalglish managed Shearer at both Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers, signing the now-retired striker from Southampton for the latter and managing Rovers to a Premier League title win in 1995 with Shearer a part of the Blackburn team.
