The Ivorian international has proven that he is Chelsea’s main forward, scoring once in their 4-1 extra-time victory over the Italian side. Drogba has been victim of speculation regarding his Chelsea future with former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka urging the 34 year old to join him at Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua. With his contract up at the end of the season, Drogba has yet to agree negotiations with the club who are looking to offer a one year deal, when Drogba wants two.
Fernando Torres is still being kept on the sidelines by Drogba’s form and the 34 year old believes he will stay with the club for as long as possible. The 34 year old was part of the Chelsea team who became only the fourth in 45 attempts to overcome a first leg deficit of two goals or more. Drogba was delighted with the rejuvenation of his teammates and is looking forward to the season.
“I am not master of my mate, but I will stay as long as possible. I am happy here to experience moments like these. I hope there will be many others. Many have said that it was my last game, but the adventure continues. It has been a long time since I have seen a Chelsea like this”, Drogba stated.
