Evra keen on title success after Bilbao exit

Manchester United defender Patrice believe that they have to win the Premier League title this season or this campaign has been really bad for the club, manutd.com reports.

The French international has been captaining the side following Nemanja Vidic’s season-long injury and was part of the United outfit that could not overturn their 3-2 first leg deficit against Athletic Bilbao in the San Mames. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will not appear in a cup-final for the first time since 2002 and Evra believes his side should be competing in every competition. Manchester United are coming into form in the Premier League and Evra, who has seen his fair share of controversy this season, believes they will recover with a win over Wolves.

“We have to win the league to save our season. If we don’t win the league, it will have been a really bad season. I’m not worried about the league, because we are playing well and now we are top in front of Manchester City. After tonight, we go home and rest, then focus on Wolves because it’s a big game, a massive game and we have to make sure we win”, Evra said.

Manchester United were humbled in the San Mames by Bilbao and Ferguson berated his defence for conceding sloppy goals that they could have avoided. The Basque’s side opener came from a long ball to Fernando Llorente and despite the sublime finish, Ferguson was unimpressed. He said: “The disappointment for me is losing such a soft goal. It was a bad one for an English team to lose a goal like that, a long ball. At the start of the second half, they could have scored two or three goals.”
