Gerrard and Johnson cleared for Liverpool trip to Sunderland

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and defender Glen Johnson are both in training with an eye to featuring in Saturday’s visit to Sunderland, reports.

The duo missed last weekend’s loss to Arsenal at Anfield because of injury, but are back in contention for a starting berth against the Black Cats. Gerrard has rallied Liverpool to push for the top four and will be looking for all three points if he features against Sunderland. Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish confirmed the news over his England internationals and believes that their returns will be a boost for a side that need to win as many games as possible if they want to reach the Champions League places.

Dalglish said: “Steven and Glen are back in training today, so we’ll see how they are. I wouldn’t restrict it to just Stevie – it’s a good boost for us to have anybody back, Steven included. Having Glen back as well, who was doing fantastic, will be good for us. We’ll see how they do in training and judge it from there”.

Gerrard has recently been announced as one of the top names among a special Sport Relief edition of the Beano. The Liverpool skipper makes an amusing swap with Wilfrid to help the Bash Street Kids get some lots together for an auction. BeanoMax, which features the segment dedicated to Sport Relief, is on sale now.
