Chelsea have been told by Portuguese side Porto that their Brazilian striker Hulk will cost the Premier League club £85m, according to the Daily
The 25-year-old has a release clause in his contract, and Porto chairman Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa said: “I’ve said it before, we would not sell Hulk and therefore Chelsea must activate his contract.” Porto signed Hulk from Japanese side Tokyo Verdy in 2008, and the forward has scored 67 goals in 154 games for the Portuguese champions.
Andre Villas-Boas, the Chelsea manager, coached Porto between 2010 and 2011, winning the Portuguese League and Cup double as well as the Europa League in the space of a season. In that successful campaign, Hulk found the net 36 times in 53 games, and claimed another 21 assists.
The current record transfer fee stands at £80m, paid by Real Madrid to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009. The sale of the Portuguese winger broke the previous record, the move of Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid from Juventus in 2001, by some £27m.
