Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hailed midfield partner Jay Spearing as one of the club’s players of the season and believes he will be a future star at Anfield, liverpoolfc.tv
Spearing turned in an outstanding performance in Tuesday night’s 3-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby, but his showing was overshadowed by Gerrard’s hat-trick. Praise has been reserved for the Liverpool captain from fellow teammate Jamie Carragher for his performance at Anfield, but Gerrard believes Spearing has been quality all season.
The 23 year old has taken great strides in his development this season and Gerrard believes Spearing will be a good player for Liverpool in years to come. With 1 FA Cup game to his name already this season, Spearing could hold his place for this weekend’s tie with Stoke City. The Reds will be looking to make it back to Wembley after their Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff City last month and Gerrard believes Spearing will show again what a good player he is.
Gerrard said: “I think he’s been consistent all season. Every time the manager has called on him, Jay has been superb. He was up against Jack Rodwell. People talk about him as a £25m player and England’s future. Well, I think Jay more than matched him if not was better than him. Jay is growing, he’s getting better and better and has a massive future at the club”.
