Andre Villas-Boas was sacked too soon as Chelsea manager, according to Blues defender David Luiz, The
The Portuguese boss was sacked by the Blues after a poor run of form culminating in a 1-0 away loss to West Bromwich Albion. Many have quoted the breakdown of relationships with Chelsea senior players as the reasons for Villas-Boas’ departure, but Chelsea captain John Terry has insisted they did not get Villas-Boas dismissed.
Luiz was close to the former Porto boss and is sad by the fact that Villas-Boas did not get a chance to ride the bad hump in form. The Brazilian defender was signed by Carlo Ancelotti for £21.8m in January 2011 and was beginning to blossom under the tutelage of Villas-Boas. Luiz believes that the club are still united and it was unfortunate they could not get the results the 34 year old needed.
“I’m really sad, as Andre was a really capable professional. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to show his true value at Chelsea. He didn’t have the chance. You cannot doubt a professional like him, who won five titles last season and was feted by everyone. But he didn’t have enough time at Chelsea”, Luiz said.
The Brazilian international could be ruled out of this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Leicester City after hobbling out of the clash with Napoli at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Luiz could barely walk after the game, but insists he does not need a rest and will be available for Roberto di Matteo.
