Mata is quoted by the newspaper as saying: “It will not be easy, but we are alive and are fighting for the Champions League and FA Cup.” Mata was part of the XI that defeated Benfica 1-0 on Tuesday evening at the Portuguese side’s Stadium of Light, a Salomon Kalou goal giving Chelsea a slender advantage ahead of the second-leg.
Chelsea also face Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on April 15, with the winners of the London derby facing either Liverpool or Everton, who play their FA Cup Merseyside derby a day earlier.
Mata joined Chelsea in summer 2011 from Valencia for a fee reported by the BBC as £23.5m. In total this season the 23-year-old attacking midfielder has made 42 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 10 goals.
