Mata has faith Chelsea can overturn Champions League deficit

Chelsea forward Juan Mata believes Roberto Di Matteo’s side can come back from 3-1 down against Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday, the Daily Mail has revealed.

Mata is quoted as saying: “In football, nothing is impossible. At Stamford Bridge, this Champions League, we had good results in the group – 3-0, 2-0 and 5-0. ‘It’s a final for us and I think we can do it.

The Italian side go into the second leg with a two-goal advantage courtesy of strikes from Edinson Cavani and an Ezequiel Lavezzi brace. Chelsea had originally gone in front in the Stadio San Paulo through Mata in the 27th minute before the Partenopei hit back with three unanswered efforts, with Lavezzi drawing his side level within 10 minutes, Cavani putting Napoli ahead on the stroke of half-time and Lavezzi confirming the lead with his second goal just after the hour.

The match proved to be one of Andre Villas-Boas’ last in charge. The Portuguese was sacked two games later, making way for Di Matteo, who has guided Chelsea to two wins in his two games in charge against Birmingham City in the FA Cup and Stoke City in the Premier League.
