Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker says his rehabilitation from an ankle ligament injury is going well, but he has not got a date on when he can return, talkSPORT
The German international picked up the injury in Arsenal’s 2-1 league victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last month. It was expected that Mertesacker would be out until the end of the season, but the 26 year old’s rehabilitation is going well and he could return sooner than expected.

I was able to put aside the crutches relatively quickly. The condition has become more and more stable by the day, so I’m quite light on my feet. It’s only when we get to the phase of placing loan on the foot that we’ll be able to see what we’re looking at, in terms of the lay-off.’
Arsene Wenger has further injury problems with Aaron Ramsey out for this weekend’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield, as well as the second leg of the Champions League against AC Milan. The Welshman is suffering with an ankle worry and will be a miss in the Arsenal midfield. Abou Diaby is back from injury and Wenger has praised Brazilian defender Andre Santos after his lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Wenger said: ‘It is a bit ahead of time and he (Santos) works with a fantastic attitude. He is unbelievably focused, motivated every day and he is a credit to himself. It is a joy to see how hard he works and sets himself targets. In two weeks, we will assess how well he is doing in training’.
