Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric will not sign a new contract until he knows who will be manager at the club next season, The
The 26 year old is being lined up for a move to Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United, who have made enquiries in the past for Modric. Chelsea had a £40m bid rejected by Spurs for Modric in the summer, but have not been deterred by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s reluctance to sell the midfielder. Levy is working on a new contract to keep Modric at the club for the next six years on a £140,000 a week contract.
Talks will resume at the end of the month, but Modric is set to postpone his decision until he is sure that the managerial situation at the club is secure. Spurs have been in a slump since Harry Redknapp was linked with the England manager job, something Redknapp has denied as a contributing factor to the club’s recent worries. Spurs have not won in five games and have lost momentum in the title race, as well as conceding third place to Arsenal.
Modric will wait to see if Redknapp stays as manager, but if the Spurs boss takes the England job, the Croatian may be inclined to move away and start a bidding war between the Blues and Man United. Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly earmarked Modric as his number one summer target, as he looks to improve the centre of United’s midfield.
