Podolski insists no Arsenal deal has been done

Cologne striker Lukas Podolski says he has not agreed a deal to move to the Emirates Stadium, despite reports suggesting a deal had been done, The Telegraph reports.

The German international is still contracted with the Bundesliga side until 2013 and although there is increasing reports of a move to Arsenal, no deal has been struck. Reports this week suggested a deal was agreed between the Premier League side and Podolski, but the 26 year old has confirmed he will be the first to announce when a deal is reached.

Podolski was dismissed for Cologne in their win over Hertha Berlin and the German side’s fans have only 11 games left before the end of the season, when the German international is expected to leave. For now, Podolski is refusing to announce his move to Arsenal and any deal will be exclusively confirmed by the striker himself. Podolski said: “We’ll just have to wait and see, but nothing has been decided yet. Every day people are repeatedly announcing the deal or wanting to be the first to confirm it exclusively, but if there is anything to say, then I will be the first to do so.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists that Podolski is not a replacement for Robin van Persie and the two can form a good partnership together. The Frenchman confirmed that if the club sign any players, they will be part of the plan to play alongside Van Persie and not replace.
