Podolski speaks with Mertesacker about Arsenal transfer

Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker has revealed his Germany international teammate Lukas Podolski has contacted him over a summer move to the Gunners, ESPN has reported.

Podolski, currently with FC Koln in Germany, has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium once the season ends. ESPN adds that Podlski has grown frustrated with life at his current club, who lie 14th in the Bundesliga table.

Polish-born Podolski returned to Koln in 2009 after three years at Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old began his career at Koln in 2002, scoring 51 goals in 84 games in his first spell. After a less fruitful time in Munich, where Podolski managed 26 strikes in 106 appearances, the striker returned to his first club and has netted a further 33 times in 87 outings.

Podolski, who made his international bow in 2004, has been capped 91 times by Germany, scoring 43 goals, and played at the European Championships in 2004 and 2008 and the World Cup in both 2006 and 2010.
