Former Tottenham Hotspur defender John Scales has told the BBC
Tottenham have not won in their last four Premier League fixtures, drawing once and losing three consecutively to Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton. In that time Spurs have gone from third place in the Premier League and leading the Gunners by 10 points to fourth and trailing their North London rivals by a point.
Scales, who played at White Hart Lane between 1996 and 2000, said: “Harry being linked with the England managerial role will be a factor. Just how significant that is nobody can put a finger on but it won’t have helped.”
Once Fabio Capello resigned in February Redknapp was immediately installed as the bookmaker’s favourite to replace the Italian. But the Football Association instead appointed Stuart Pearce as caretaker manager and have said they will not interrupt a club’s season by poaching their manager before the end of the campaign.
