Chelsea captain John Terry has branded former boss Jose Mourinho a ‘fantastic manager’ amid speculation of a return to Stamford Bridge, Sky
Mourinho won two league titles with the Blues during his time at Stamford Bridge and began the most successful period in the club’s history. The Portuguese boss also won the FA Cup and two League Cups with Terry playing a pivotal role in that period. Mourinho further fuelled speculation of a move to Chelsea by visiting London last month and the Chelsea boss could be open to a move back to Stamford Bridge.
Terry has always had a good relationship with Mourinho, but insists that at the moment, he is focused on performing under interim manager Roberto di Matteo. The England international has returned from knee surgery to rebuild the club’s season and help them kick on towards their targets of the FA Cup final, Champions League quarter-final and qualifying for the tournament next season.
Terry said: “It’s all speculation at the moment. Obviously (Mourinho) was a fantastic manager and a very good man manager as well. Robbie has come in, he’s brought Eddie Newton in as well, they’re doing a great job taking over. So, the target really is focus on two months, get the club in the position we all want to be in – which is the Champions League next year – and we’ll go from there.”
Ivorian international Didier Drogba has also backed Mourinho’s return, but there is plenty of speculation regarding his move. Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has declared his interest in the job, but the Blues fans are unhappy with speculation over Benitez and want Mourinho back.
