Tottenham face competition for Villarreal striker Rossi

Tottenham Hotspur are one of three Premier League clubs chasing Villarreal’s Italy international striker Giuseppe Rossi, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The newspaper adds that as well as interest from Spurs, La Liga side Villarreal are dealing with the attention of Liverpool and Manchester United for the signature of the 25-year-old. Rossi is a former Manchester United player, having spent three years at Old Trafford after joining as a 17-year-old, but Rossi moved to Villarreal in July 2007 without breaking into the United first team.

Rossi made 14 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson and had a brief loan spell at Newcastle United before moving to Italy with Parma in another loan deal. Rossi never returned to United, signing for Villarreal that summer. According to Soccerbase, in his time at El Madrigal Rossi has 23 goals in 54 La Liga appearances, having suffered an injury-ravaged 2011-12 campaign which has seen the striker feature in only 11 games for his club.
