Valencia keen on Debuchy

According to El Gol Digital, Valencia are understood to be keen to sign Lille defender Mathieu Debuchy as an alternative to Ajax’s Gregory Van der Wiel, with negotiations for the Dutchman appearing to have come to a halt.

Unai Emery is keen to reinforce the right-hand side of his defence for next season, with both Bruno and Miguel out of contract in June, and sees Debuchy as an ideal addition to his squad, with the player himself admitting there had been interest in him from the Spanish club.

“It is in my thoughts and I know that Valencia are interested in me,” the 26-year-old told L’Equipe. “But I am focused on the French league for now. I want to end the season here on a positive note before thinking of any transfer. I also have to accept I am under contract and I can’t pick and choose,” he added.

Debuchy fits the profile of what Valencia are looking for in terms of strengthening for the 2012-13 campaign, having played almost 200 league games for Lille since his debut in January, 2004 and making three international appearances for the French national side.

In addition, his former teammate at the Stade Lille-Metropole is current Valencia central defender Adil Rami, whose presence could be key in any negotiations.
