Robin van Persie has attracted interest from Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, according to the BBC,
Mancini is quoted as saying: “We are interested in good players. I think all the good teams are interested in van Persie. He is a fantastic striker but I think he will remain with Arsenal.”
Manchester City have made a habit of swooping for Arsenal players in recent years, both under Mancini and his predecessor Mark Hughes. Making the trip from North London to Manchester have been such names as Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri.
Van Persie, the Arsenal captain, has scored 32 goals in 37 club appearances this summer, and when his international form is taken into account the figures rise to 36 goals in 42 games. Van Persie’s tally includes four goals for the Netherlands against San Marino, club hat-tricks against Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers and braces against Borussia Dortmund, Norwich City, Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City, to name a few. However, van Persie has not scored against Mancini’s City this season, having been part of the Arsenal side that lost to City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium in December 2011.
