Wenger facing touchline ban after Champions League ref rant

The Daily Telegraph have claimed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could face a European touchline ban after ranting at the referee in the tunnel following Arsenal’s 4-3 aggregate defeat by Milan on Tuesday evening.

The newspaper alleges that Wenger labelled the performance of Slovenian official Damir Skomina “a disgrace” after a series of decisions went the way of the victors. Wenger is also reported to have sworn at the referee. If Skomina, who will officiate at this summer’s European Championships, includes the incident in his match report Wenger could face disciplinary action that comes into effect next season.

In the match, Arsenal were shown three yellow cards to the four given to Milan, but 21 fouls were signalled against the Gunners compared to eight for the Italian side. The first booking of the game came in the fourth minute, when Milan’s Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel was cautioned for a challenge of Tomas Rosicky.
