Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will speak with chief executives to prepare a £25m bid for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze, The
The 19 year old is recognised as one of the brightest hopes in European football and has been earmarked as a potential signing for Wenger. Gotze’s signature would have to smash Arsenal’s 2009 purchase of Andrey Arshavin for £15m, but Wenger is prepared to break the bank for the German. Arsenal have already had a bid for Gotze rejected by the German champions, but have not been disheartened in their approach.
Gotze is expected to be part of Germany’s Euro 2012 squad, despite being currently sidelined with a groin problem, and Wenger would like to seal the deal before Gotze flies to Poland and Ukraine. The 19 year old is said to be keen to sign for the North London club, but could only sign on the premise that Arsenal qualify for the Champions League. Arsenal can close the gap to third place Tottenham to a point if they beat Newcastle United in the Monday night game at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has yet to commit his future to the club, which could worry Gotze over a potential move. Dutch legend Marco van Basten < a href='http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Marco-Van-Basten-Exclusive-Arsenal-need-to-spend-65m-on-FOUR-players-to-keep-Robin-Van-Persie-article876433.html' target='_blank' rel="nofollow">has called on Wenger to make big moves, which would include Gotze, to ensure Van Persie stays at the Emirates Stadium.
Van Basten said: “The Arsenal squad has to be bigger and stronger. That will never guarantee trophies, but it will increase the chances. They need a few more players of maturity and then you can get Robin to stay”.
