Wilshere suffered the injury playing in a pre-season friendly, the Emirates Cup, against Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls in late July. A set-back in January has meant Wilshere has so far missed the entire season.
The Star however reports that Wilshere has told friends he expects to be fit enough for a specially arranged behind-closed-doors friendly by mid-April, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly warned that even if Wilshere does feature in such a match, he will require a few weeks more full training.
Wilshere made his Arsenal debut in September 2008, becoming at 16 years and 256 days the club’s youngest ever league player. The midfielder has gone on to make 64 appearances for his club, as well as 14 outings during a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers. Wilshere also has five England caps to his name.
