Adebayor needs constant reassurance to thrive, says Redknapp

Tottenham Hotspur Harry Redknapp has revealed what he believes is the secret to getting the most out of on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor – continually assuring the Manchester City player that he is doing well, the Independent has reported.

Adebayor joined Tottenham on loan from City last summer and has gone on to score 14 goals for his temporary club, having scored only five more than that in a year and a half at the Etihad Stadium. Adebayor was brought to Manchester by Mark Hughes but the Welshman was sacked and replaced by Roberto Mancini, with Adebayor eventually falling out of favour. A loan move to Real Madrid in January 2011 followed before the Togolese signed on at White Hart Lane for a full year.

Redknapp rejected that Adebayor was as confident as he first appears, suggesting that the bravado is not the true character of the player, something Redknapp believes Adebayor shares with a lot of players. He added: “He needs assuring all the time that he’s doing well. I think if you do that with him, you get the best out of him.
