Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has written in the Liverpool
The team are currently eighth in the League 36 points behind the leaders and 16 points off the pace for the Champions League qualification. The club’s 3-0 win over Everton four weeks ago is their only win in their last nine League games, a run that included six defeats and seen them fall from fifth in the League. They are also below cross-city rivals Everton who they meet in the FA Cup semi-final for the first time since 1977.
Aldridge, who the FA Cup with Liverpool in 1989, said the competition offered the club a chance to salvage something from the season.
“This has been the worst year for watching games at Anfield I’ve ever known,” Aldridge said. “To have only won five out of 16 home games is unbelievable. Kenny has to say to the players ‘forget about the league, we’re a really good cup side’.”
Liverpool have already clinched the League Cup, beating Cardiff on penalties in the final and have also defeated both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Stoke in knock-out games this season.
