Benayoun added that Arsenal’s chances of finishing third in the Premier League rest a great deal on the shoulders of the skipper. The Israel international said: “I was lucky to play with some of the great strikers in my career and Robin at the moment is one of the best in the world…we know we must give him the ball to the right place and he will score like he has done all season.” Van Persie’s goal against the Potters was his 28th in the league this season and 35th in all competitions for his club.
The 31-year-old Benayoun played with Fernando Torres at Liverpool, during what were arguably the Spaniard’s peak years, as well as Didier Drogba, the Chelsea striker. Benayoun is on loan with Arsenal from the Stamford Bridge club until the end of the season and has 24 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side, scoring four times. Benayoun originally came to the Premier League with West Ham in 2005, having previously spent time in Spain with Racing Santander.
