Benayoun has spent the season playing with van Persie in Arsenal colours and previously played at both Chelsea and Liverpool with Torres, and put the two players on an equal footing. He is quoted as saying: “…van Persie is above everyone…I played with Fernando Torres and I put him at the same level as two of the best strikers in the world.” Both Benayoun and van Persie were on target on Wednesday evening as Arsenal saw off relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 at Molineux.
Van Persie converted a first-half penalty after Sebastien Bassong brought down Theo Walcott, with the Dutchman impudently chipping his spot kick down the middle of the goal to record his first strike in five appearances. It had previously been a prolific season for van Persie, scoring 38 goals in 48 games for club and country, with 34 of those efforts coming in 43 Arsenal appearances.
