Gary Cahill is facing a race against time to be fit for Chelsea’s Champions League final with Bayern Munich after suffering a hamstring injury during the Blues’ semi-final triumph over Barcelona, the
If Cahill cannot feature for Chelsea in the showpiece at Bayern’s Allianz Arena on May 19 it would leave interim manager Roberto Di Matteo with something of a defensive headache, as captain John Terry is ruled out of the match after his straight red card in the semi-final, as is Branislav Ivanovic, who is banned through the totting up process after picking up a booking at the Nou Camp.
That would leave Di Matteo with only David Luiz to call on as a natural central defender, although the Brazilian is just returning from injury himself. Luiz will not feature for Chelsea against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, the Guardian adds, and if Cahill does not recover in time, Luiz may be partnered by Jose Bosingwa or Paulo Ferreira, both right-backs by trade.
