Chelsea facing suspension crisis for Champions League final

Chelsea will be without four players through suspension for the Champions League final against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich after an attritional semi-final victory over Barcelona, the London Evening Standard has reported.

Interim manager Roberto Di Matteo will be without John Terry, who was shown a straight red card for violent conduct after striking Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez with his knee in the first-half, as well as Branislav Ivanovic, Raul Meireles and Ramires, who each picked up yellow cards to rule them out of the final on the totting up process.

Di Matteo also faces concerns over the fitness of centre-backs David Luiz, who has missed the last few Chelsea matches with a hamstring injury, and Gary Cahill, who was replaced in the first-half at the Nou Camp with a hamstring injury of his own.

If Cahill and Luiz do not overcome their injuries before the May 19 showpiece at Munich’s Allianz Arena, Di Matteo may have to deploy Jose Bosingwa in central defence after the full-back replaced Cahill to form a makeshift partnership with John Obi Mikel against Barca.
