Drogba to put talk of Chelsea future on hold

Didier Drogba will not discuss his Chelsea future until the end of the season, the Belfast Telegraph has reported. The Ivory Coast striker wants to wait until the Premier League campaign has come to an end and the finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League are out of the way.

The newspaper adds that Drogba has already rejected a new one-year contract to remain at Stamford Bridge, with the belief the 34-year-old is either holding out for a two-year deal or already has his eye on a lucrative move away from the Premier League. Clubs in the United States’ Major League Soccer have been mentioned, as has a possible switch to join up with former Chelsea teammate Nicolas Anelka in China.

Drogba has scored in his last two Chelsea appearances, both semi-finals, first against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley and then against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge. The former goal precipitated a rout that ended 5-1 to the Blues, while the latter proved a vital strike against the champions of Europe as Roberto Di Matteo’s side held on to claim a 1-0 first-leg advantage.
