Manchester derby just another game for Mancini despite Premier League title ramifications

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has dismissed the idea that the forthcoming Manchester derby between City and Manchester United is any more important because of the impact it could have on the Premier League title race, the Daily Mail has reported.

The two sides go into Monday’s fixture separated at the top of the table by three points, with United leading the way and City on their coattails. A win at the Etihad Stadium for Mancini’s side would take them top of the table on goal difference with two games to play, while if Ferguson’s men triumph they will be a game away from clinching a 20th league title, holding a six-point lead with two games to play.

Mancini said: “For us it will just be one more game, not because we fight for this or that or for that, and after there are another two games, very tough games.” Following the Manchester derby City meet Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers, while United face Swansea City and Sunderland. Mancini added that a Manchester derby is always an important occasion, rejecting the suggestion the game is more important because of the two sides’ league positions.
