Mourinho to back Chelsea in Champions League final against Bayern Munich

Jose Mourinho has revealed he will be supporting Chelsea when they take on the conquerors of the Portuguese’s Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, in the Champions League final, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Mourinho managed Chelsea between 2004 and 2007, twice winning the Premier League title and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2005. But Mourinho was denied a reunion with his former club in this year’s Champions League final when Bayern defeated Madrid in a penalty shootout after the two-legged tie finished 3-3 on aggregate. Both sides had one away goal to their name and could only be separated by spot kicks, Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger scoring the clinching effort.

Speaking after his side lost their semi-final, Mourinho said: “Chelsea mean a lot in my life and I would like them to win the final. John [Terry] is missing but Chelsea is there, which is the most important thing.

Bayern led 2-1 from the first-leg but two early Cristiano Ronaldo goals, one of which was a penalty, tilted the balance towards the Spaniards, before an Arjen Robben spot kick levelled the scores before half-time. Ronaldo went on to miss his penalty in the shootout as Bayern prevailed 3-1.
