Still no Sandoval deal at Rayo

Rayo Vallecano want boss Jose Ramon Sandoval to continue at the club next season, although the 43-year-old has still not received any formal offer.

President, Raul Martin Presa, said last Friday that a proposal has been put to Sandoval with the club now having virtually achieved top-flight safety with five games remaining.

“Within the club we are happy with Sandoval and want him to continue. We hope he accepts our offer and stays with us next season and for many years to come,” affirmed Presa, although Sandoval denied he has been offered a new agreement.

“There is no offer…I do not have anything on the table,” he responded the following day.

However, nothing is expected to be finalised until the end of April when the club’s administrators hold their monthly meeting and new contracts will still have to be ratified by them.

The bad news for Rayo is that Sandoval is being coveted by Sporting Gijon, whose director of football Raul Lozano is casting his eyes towards Vallecas as he starts to plan for next season, whether it be in La Segunda at the relegation-threatened club or in La Primera.
