Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has said he believes the Gunners have what it takes to pip Tottenham Hotspur to third place in the Premier League and qualify directly for the Champions League group stages, ESPN
Prior to Saturday’s defeat by Queens Park Rangers Arsenal had won their last seven league games, taking them past Spurs in the race to finish third. But the two clubs are now level on 58 points, with Arsenal facing the difficult prospect of hosting Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Van Persie said: “We have seven more games to play and I believe we can come third. It won’t be easy, everyone is fighting for every point.” Not only are Arsenal desirous of victory to pull away again from Tottenham, but Manchester City are in a battle with their local rivals Manchester United for the league crown.
Netherlands international van Persie has been in impressive form this season, scoring 33 goals in 41 games for Arsenal, although the 28-year-old has not found the back of the net in any of his last three club games, drawing blanks against Everton, Aston Villa and QPR.
