Montpellier forward Olivier Giroud, currently preparing for Euro 2012 with France, is said to be Wenger’s preferred choice but in the event Giroud cannot be lured to the Emirates Stadium, the Mail claims Wenger will turn to Doumbia, with talks already underway between the Gunners and Doumbia’s Russian employers.
The £26m fee may be a little rich for Arsenal but it is thought CSKA are negotiable over the price, which could come down to within Arsenal’s budget. The 24-year-old Doumbia scored 38 goals for CSKA last season, and has Champions League and international experience. Doumbia joined CSKA from Swiss side Young Boys, having also played in Japan for a number of clubs after beginning his career in his homeland.
