Arsenal forward Gervinho lauded by Chelsea new-boy Hazard

Eden Hazard, the Lille midfielder who this week announced he was moving to Chelsea, has claimed his former teammate and current Arsenal forward Gervinho is the best player he has ever played with, ESPN has reported.

Gervinho was at Lille until last summer when he moved to Arsenal in a £10m deal, but his time with Hazard was a successful one as the pair helped Lille to a league and cup double in 2011. ESPN however rates Gervinho’s time thus far at the Emirates Stadium as somewhat less successful, but Hazard claims the Ivory Coast international is the teammate he rates most highly.

Hazard said: “Great players inspire you. The best player I played with was [Gervinho]. We didn’t have the same qualities, but we both tried to make the difference. He taught me some things. He makes the right runs.

Gervinho joined Lille from Le Mans in 2009, spending two years at the club and making 93 appearances, finding the net on 36 occasions. In his first season at Arsenal Gervinho featured in 35 games and score four goals, claiming six assists, but did not play after early March following an ankle injury.
