Arsenal insist no problem with long-term Wilshere fitness

Arsenal have denied they have any concerns over the long-term fitness of midfielder Jack Wilshere, the Daily Mail has reported. The Gunners are said to be sure the England international will be fit for the start of the new Premier League season despite having missed the entirety of the one just ended.

Wilshere suffered a serious ankle injury in a pre-season friendly last summer and a series of complications meant he went the whole of 2011-12 without making an appearance. The 20-year-old is now facing surgery on his left knee to clear up a minor problem with his patella tendon. The procedure will take place in Sweden, after which Arsenal insist they are confident Wilshere will return to England ready to continue his rehabilitation on schedule.

Having made his senior Arsenal bow as a 16-year-old in 2008, the youngest Arsenal player to make a league appearance, Wilshere has been around the first team for some time, having thus far played in 64 games for Arsenal and a further 14 on loan at Bolton Wanderers.
