The Spanish giants are believed to have watched the attacking midfielder on at least six occasions this season and could be ready to make their move over the summer. Gotze, 19, is known for his good close control and ability to play on both wings, besides his talent for providing a number of assists.
Despite his tender years Gotze has already played in 64 official matches for Dortmund and has taken part in two consecutive Bundesliga title successes, after appearing just five times in his debut season with the club.
Although Barca have monitored Gotze’s progress for some time they are not the only ones coveting his signature, with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal all having watched him at one time or another over the last two years.
However, the Borussia hierarchy, in an attempt to divert any interest, have offered the player an increased salary from €2.5m-a-year to €4m, while his representative is understood to have placed Gotze’s transfer value at around €25m.
