Bayern captain Lahm criticises Chelsea skipper Terry for Champions League suspension

John Terry has been criticised by his opposite number at Chelsea’s Champions League final opponents Bayern Munich, Philipp Lahm, for getting sent off against Barcelona in the competition’s semi-final, the Guardian has reported.

Terry was given a straight red card for an incident with Barca forward Alexis Sanchez, leaving his side not only fighting against the odds at the Nou Camp but also without their captain for what is arguably their most important game of the season. Terry’s unavailability compounds the defensive problems plaguing interim manager Roberto Di Matteo, as Branislav Ivanovic is also missing through suspension while Gary Cahill and David Luiz are still injury doubts.

Lahm said: “I can only say I wouldn’t have done that. That wouldn’t have happened to me because I do everything for my side, and that would have harmed my team.” Terry will still be at the final, to be played at Bayern’s own Allianz Arena, as a non-playing member of the travelling party. Chelsea will also be without midfielders Raul Meireles and Ramires who, like Ivanovic, picked up yellow cards that rule them out of the match.
