Cech signs new Chelsea contract

Petr Cech has signed a new contract keeping him at Chelsea until 2016, the Daily Telegraph has reported. The Czech Republic international first moved to the Premier League in 2004.

Cech has made more appearances for the Stamford Bridge club than any foreign player in Chelsea’s history, and has won three league titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Champions League in his eight years wearing Chelsea colours. The 30-year-old was also recently voted his country’s Player of the Year for a record seventh time.

In 369 Chelsea appearances Cech has kept 178 clean sheets and saved three penalties in the Champions League final, two in the shootout itself and one in extra-time, helping the Blues eventually triumph 4-3 after the match was drawn 1-1.

Cech has also been capped 89 times by his country and will take part at Euro 2012 as the most capped of all the Czech Republic players. Captain Tomas Rosicky has 86 appearances to his name and striker Milan Baros 87, but Cech has inched past both his teammates.
