Fernando Torres will travel to Euro 2012 with Spain as La Rioja attempt to retain their European Championships crown, the BBC
Something of a return to form late in the season has, however, brought Torres back into the fold. The 28-year-old scored the winning goal in the final of Euro 2008 as Spain defeated Germany 1-0, and played in the 2010 World Cup as del Bosque’s side became world champions for the first time in their history, but a long spell without a goal for his club saw the former Real Madrid Coach turn to other options for a mid-season friendly.
Nevertheless Torres scored a crucial goal to help Chelsea defeat Barcelona in a two-legged Champions League semi-final on the way to winning the tournament outright, and netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 demolition of Queens Park Rangers as he rediscovered his scoring touch towards the end of the campaign. With David Villa unable to recover from a broken leg in time to make the squad, Torres was called into the 23-man party, one of four Premier League representatives.
