Chelsea interim manager Roberto Di Matteo has admitted on the eve of the Blues’ match with Newcastle United that the club’s Premier League form this season has not been good enough, Press
Chelsea are currently sixth in the table, 22 points adrift of Manchester United and Manchester City, who top the division with 83 points. A year ago Chelsea finished the season nine points behind United and level on points with City with 71 points to their name, 10 more than they currently have this season. With three games to play and so only nine points available, Chelsea can now not match last season’s total.
Di Matteo said that at this point in the season the table offers a fair reflection of where a side should be, and that Chelsea deserve to be well behind the Manchester clubs. The Italian added: “The table usually doesn’t lie. They have won more games and won more points. The table always reflects the truth.” Chelsea have this season beaten Manchester City and drawn with Manchester United at home, but lost to both clubs on their travels.
