Drogba would have stayed at Chelsea if they had lost Champions League final

Didier Drogba has revealed he would have stayed at Chelsea if they had not been victorious in the Champions League final on Saturday, the Daily Telegraph has reported, while the Ivory Coast striker also declined to comment on the location of his next destination.

On Tuesday Drogba confirmed he was leaving Stamford Bridge after eight years with the club but admitted he would have remained had Bayern Munich triumphed in the penalty shootout, such was his desire to win the Champions League with Chelsea. Drogba added: “We’ve been chasing this trophy for eight years. That was the challenge for the guys who were in Moscow. We wanted to go back and win it. We did everything to do that.

Drogba converted the match-winning penalty against Bayern having also scored the goal that levelled the scores minutes before the final whistle and took the game to extra time. The goal, which turned out to be Drogba’s last for Chelsea, was his 13th of the season and 157th in total for the club he joined from Marseille in 2004. Drogba made 317 appearances in Chelsea colours.
