Fabregas hopes van Persie stays at Arsenal

The former captain of Arsenal has admitted he hopes his successor remains at the Emirates Stadium, as Cesc Fabregas confirms he wants Robin van Persie to help return the Gunners to the top of the Premier League, the Daily Mail has reported.

Fabregas left Arsenal for boyhood club Barcelona a year ago but, as van Persie considers the offer of a new contract to stay at Arsenal in the face of interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid, amongst others, the Spanish midfielder has revealed he would be disappointed to see the Dutch striker follow him out the exit door, even though Barcelona are another of the sides said to be interested in van Persie.

He said: “As an Arsenal fan I would be happy if [van Persie] stayed in London to help Arsenal win titles.” Fabregas left the club for Barcelona but his new side could not hold off the challenge of Real Madrid, losing the league title to Jose Mourinho’s side, and were eliminated from the Champions League by eventual winners Chelsea.
