Frank Lampard will not consider the impact on his uncle Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspurs side when he leads Chelsea out to play Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on Saturday, Reuters
Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League this season, out of the qualification places for next year’s Champions League, but can enter the tournament as holders if they defeat Bayern this weekend. Should that happen the side that finished fourth in the table, Tottenham, would miss out, dropping into the Europa League instead.
Redknapp’s wife was the sister of Lampard’s late mother, and this week Redknapp admitted he would be supporting Bayern in the final, so desperate was he to take Spurs back into the Champions League. Lampard added that he would not have expected anything else from Redknapp as he knows how important the chance to play in the Champions League is.
Lampard went on to say: “I know he said that. But if he’d said anything other than that with a straight face I wouldn’t have believed him anyway.”
